5 Steps to Finding Your Life’s Purpose in 5 Minutes
About This Event
Ever wonder why it’s so hard to set goals? This was something that I was struggling with recently as I reviewed my 2017 goals and planned my 2018.
I struggled so much it actually made me a bit depressed. That’s because I was trying to map my goals to a specific life purpose.
I quickly realized I never really defined that.
With my voracious appetite for reading, various mentors I’ve had, and the years I’ve spent meditating how is it that I struggled with this task?
Like any human being finding purpose in the modern age, I turned to the internet to help me solve my problem. Here’s the solution I found thanks to Adam Lepzig’s TED Talk.
How to Find Your Life’s Purpose in 5 minutes:
1. Who are you?
This one is easy. Just literally state your name.
2. What do you love to do?
Whether at home or at work, what do you take the most pleasure in doing? What do you find yourself doing in your spare time?
3. Who do you do it for?
Picture in your mind those people you love to serve. Think about the times you did the thing you love for another person regardless of the circumstance.
4. What do those people want or need?
What do they want or need that you have that they’ve come to you for? Do your best to state it in one or two sentences.
5. How do people change or transform as a result of what you do for them?
When you give these people what they need or want, who do they become? What is the story they now tell themselves?
There’s something interesting about those five things you need to find your life’s purpose; only two are about yourself and three are about other people.
This formulation forces you to be outward facing and mindful.
The people whom I find to be most successful, that create true impact in their work focus most on the people they serve than how they serve themselves.
