The best LGBTQ+ events and things to do in London this March
About This Event
March is a month of queer legends, quizzes, and queens.
As ever, London's LGBTQ+ scene is brimming with treats for everyone from theatre enthusiasts to cabaret aficionados.
If you're looking for a dance, don't worry, there's always some of that going on and this month's big bash is a returning favorite for the night owls.
Here are our picks of the best queer delights at your fingertips this month.
Sodom and Begorrah: St Patrick’s Day X-Travaganza
Celebrate St Patrick’s Day in style – or if not in style, then with glitter, sweat, and Guinness. The annual bash from Irish queer party people Sodom & Begorrah returns, bringing with it Ireland’s best cabaret performer ANTHONY. There will be cabaret, drag artists, live music and a big old midnight sing-along.
Armistead Maupin in conversation with Ian McKellen
Two gay titans talk to each other about life, activism and much-loved queer fiction. Writer Armistead Maupin’s novel series Tales of the City has been read by millions, and now watched by many more after the Netflix adaptation dropped last year. He talks to long-time friend Ian McKellen as part of the National Theatre’s Authors of Stage series.
The Quizzarding World
Do you know where to find a bezoar? Or how to cast an engorgement charm? Your expert knowledge is needed at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern’s Harry Potter quiz night hosted by the Lost Diaphragm, fundraising for Cabaret vs Cancer. Drag troupe The Vixens will also be performing and there will be cash prizes for winners and best costume. Accio prizes.
Klub Kids Drag Race Season 4 Reunion Show
The queens of season four reunite to sort a few things out. Sharon Needles, Latrice Royale, Chad Michaels, Phi Phi O’Hara, Jiggly Caliente and Madame LeQueer battle it out (again). They’ll be bringing back their snatch game characters and lip syncing for their lives to crown a new winner.
Queerstory
The Embers Collective present a colourful night of queer mythology, with the help of performers, storytellers and musicians. Tucked away in the Crypt at Vault Festival, they’ll be visiting the world of folklore to find the often obscured and newly uncovered queer themes.
And What? Queer Arts Festival
London’s annual LGBTQ+ arts festival is back with a bold and bigger line-up of queer voices. This year’s offerings include seasoned favourites including BoiBox with Adam All and Apple Derrieres, and new works like Lauren Steele’s autobiographical show about unlearning sexual shame, Teen Slut. The third edition of exhibition Queer Art(ists) Now will bring 50 artists together for an uncensored display running for the length of the festival.
Pink Lemonade
The London premiere of Mika Johnson’s debut show Pink Lemonade comes to Rich Mix, after a smashing reception at the last Edinburgh Fringe. Poetry, movement and original beats tell a story of self-acceptance and leaving sour love in the past.
Hot Choc cabaret
This brand new bi-monthly cabaret night at the glory is all about centring performers of colour. Created by four of London’s best cabaret artists – Rhys’s Pieces, Prinx Chiyo, Shakona Fire and Bolly Illusion – the first line-up is glorious. Rhys’s Pieces and Bolly Illusion are on stage, with special guests Romeo De La Cruz, Jada Love, Minara El Waters and Cal Fox. One huge wow.
Man Up
The heat is on. Man Up – the Glory’s huge drag king competition – is searching for someone to wear the crown. The contest is open for anyone to enter, and heats are running throughout March to track down the Next Big Thing. Last year’s winner was Louis F.U. CK, Evie Fehilly’s powerful and utterly hilarious take-down of Louis CK, so expect to see drag in its truest form: radical, political and boundary-pushing.
